Community Partners

United Way works to build a stronger, safer community, but we can't do it alone.  United Way works to bring together community, corporate and governmental leaders to solve the problems most affecting our community. 

Below is a listing of our service partners, or agencies, and what they do to improve lives in Northeastern Kentucky.

 

Area Education Projects
Funds innovative education programs in various school systems in Boyd and Greenup counties.

Ashland Child Development Center

Ashland Senior Center
A drop-in center on 15th Street in Ashland for seniors.  Lunch is served on Mon., Wed., And Fri.  Art classes, crafts, birthday celebrations, field trips, and quilting are some of the major activities.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters
A program to match adults with young people from single parent situations to provide a caring relationship.

Boyd County – Community Education
Programs designed to serve adults and youth in programs that are an extension of the regular education offered in schools.  Based in the Family Community Center on U.S. 60 at Meade Station in Boyd County.

Boy Scouts – Tri-State
Programs designed to build character in male youth.  Serving Boyd County and one troop in Greenup County.

Community Hospice
Provides medical, emotional, and spiritual support to the terminally ill and their families.

Girl Scouts – Wilderness Road
Programs are designed to build character in female youth.

Hope’s Place
An advocacy center for child sexual abuse and adult rape victims.  Located on 9th Street and Greenup Avenue in Ashland.

Boyd County 4-H
United Way funding is used for camp scholarships among youth in this program that is offered by the Extension Office in the Catlettsburg Courthouse.

Catlettsburg Civic Center
Various Programs are offered in the Catlettsburg’s old train depot building.  Youth and adults are offered training, education, recreation, and entertainment.

Childwatch CASA of Boyd County
A program to promote quality representation for abused and neglected children in the state foster care system.

Community Assistance and Referral Service (CAReS)
Provides information and referral services to individuals needing emergency food, clothing, and utility payments in Boyd County.

Community Kitchen
Provides a free hot lunch and dinner (as scheduled) five (5) days a week (Mon.- Fri.). Lunch is served at the Calvary Episcopal Church in Ashland and dinner is served at the First Presbyterian Church in Ashland (as scheduled).

Equi-Visions Therapeutic Riding Program
A program serving special needs individuals of any age.  Self-confidence, and improve social skills are the goals of the program as people learn how to ride a horse.

The Dressing Room
Free clothing is provided to people in need.  Volunteers process clothing donated by community residents.

Friends of the Children
New clothing is provided for needy children in the Ashland School System.

Hillcrest Bruce Missions
Care for the emotional, physical, and spiritual needs for the residents of two low-income housing communities in Ashland, hillcrest and Bruce.  Pre-school and after school classes, recreation, discussion groups, dental clinic and nutritional classes are offered.

Red Cross – Boyd County
Programs to help people prevent and cope with all types of emergencies.  Major programs deal with disaster, military personnel and families, bloodmobiles, health and safety training in first aid, CPR, and water sports.  Based in Ashland and serves Boyd and Carter Counties as well as others upon request.

River Cities Harvest
Collect food that would otherwise be wasted from area restaurants and food stores and distribute it to Agencies that feed the needy in Boyd and Greenup Counties and Lawrence Co., OH.

Rose Society
Boyd County School District Program. Provides new clothing and other needed items for needy students

Safe Harbor
Provides residential services and crisis intervention, counseling, life skills and educational tutoring to victims of domestic violence.

Salvation Army
A program to provide emergency aid for those in need of food, furniture, clothing, utility assistance, prescriptions, and transportation.  Emergency shelter is provided for transients.

Shelter of Hope
Temporary shelter is provided for the homeless in individual apartments.  Counseling is provided to assist in the transition to permanent housing.

Two Hearts Pregnancy Center
Assists pregnant women with various programs to aid in a healthy birth of a child.  Located in Ashland- serves wide area.  Preventive skills are taught.

Westwood Boys/Girls Club
A program based in Westwood, a community adjacent to Ashland that serves youth in character-building activities. Boxing, football, and other sports are offered as well as an after school game room.

Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA)
A program for people of all ages to build and maintain a healthy body and spiritual well-being.  Free memberships for youth in need (scholarships) are provided by United Way funds.

 

4-H Greenup County
United Way funds sponsor camp activities for ages 8 to 14 and helps with other projects coordinated through the schools.

Boy Scouts – Simon Kenton
Programs designed to build character in male youth.  Serves Greenup County.  Regional office in Columbus, Ohio, with a satellite office in Portsmouth.

Greenup County High School Drug Program
An organized after-prom activity held in the spring of every year.  Parent volunteers conduct all-night program for seniors.

Greenup County Little League
A youth baseball program for youth in Greenup.  Located on Rt. 207.

Greenup County Senior Center
A program for the elderly that is connected with the area development (FIVCO) offerings.  Operated in Greenup on Main Street.

Helping Hands
A referral agency for all people in need.  A thrift store is available for clothing and food also provided.  Utility assistance is offered from this program located on Main Street in Greenup.

Partners in Pride
A program to provide new clothing for children in need in the Russell Independent Schools.

Pathways – Greenup
A branch of the regional Pathways program that provides day care for the handicapped.  Counseling for multiple problems, parental counseling and referral and various other rehabilitation activities are offered to the handicapped.

Raceland High School Drug Program
An all-night program offered after the annual prom.  Parent volunteers provide programs that provide an anti-drug emphasis.

Red Cross – Northeastern Chapter
Located in Greenup and serving both Greenup and Lewis counties.  Programs to help people prevent and cope with emergencies.  Disaster assistance, military personnel programs, health and safety training in first aid, CPR, and water sports.

Russell High Drug Program        
An all-night program offered after the annual prom.  Parent volunteers provide programs that provide an anti-drug emphasis.

Russell/Flatwoods Little League
A youth baseball program based in Flatwoods.

Stan Spence Little League
A youth baseball program based in South Shore.
