Our Focus: The 4 E’s of Community Impact

At United Way of Northeast Kentucky (UWNEK), our mission is to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of our community. We achieve this by strategically investing in 21 local partner organizations through our grant process, supporting programs that align with our four focus areas: Education, Empowerment, Employability, and Essential Needs. Together, these priorities create a strong foundation for lasting community impact across Northeast Kentucky.

Education

Education is the cornerstone of opportunity and long-term success. Through grant funding to local partners, UWNEK supports programs that help children, youth, and adults learn, grow, and reach their full potential. Initiatives focus on academic success, mentorship, life skills, and engagement—ensuring learners are prepared for school, work, and life.

Empowerment

Empowerment strengthens individuals and families by building confidence, resilience, and leadership. UWNEK invests in programs that equip people with the tools and support they need to overcome challenges, advocate for themselves, and make informed decisions. Our partner organizations help individuals move toward independence and active community involvement.

Employability

Economic stability begins with employability. UWNEK funds workforce development efforts that provide job readiness training, career exploration, skill-building, and employment pathways. By supporting programs that connect people to meaningful work, we help strengthen families, employers, and the regional economy.

Essential Needs

Access to basic needs is vital for stability and dignity. Through grants to trusted local organizations, UWNEK ensures individuals and families can access food, shelter, healthcare, transportation, and other critical services. Meeting immediate needs allows people to focus on long-term goals and sustainable success
