Ashland Community Kitchen
Providing Nourishment, Dignity, and Hope Since 1982
For more than four decades, Ashland Community Kitchen has been a source of nourishment, compassion, and hope for individuals and families facing food insecurity throughout the Ashland area. What began in 1982 as a small effort serving three lunches a week at Calvary Episcopal Church has grown into one of the community's most important resources for those experiencing hunger.
Today, Ashland Community Kitchen provides more than 5,000 free meals each month, offering breakfast and lunch five days a week and dinner four evenings a week. Serving more than 150 meals daily, the organization ensures that individuals experiencing financial hardship, homelessness, or unexpected challenges have a welcoming place to receive a nutritious meal.
But the mission extends beyond providing food. At the heart of Ashland Community Kitchen is a commitment to treating every person with dignity, kindness, and respect. For many who walk through its doors, the kitchen offers more than a meal. It provides consistency, human connection, and reassurance that their community cares.
In addition to its daily meal services, Ashland Community Kitchen operates a food pantry that distributes monthly food boxes to individuals and families in need. This additional support helps households stretch limited resources and maintain access to food beyond the kitchen's regular serving hours.
Located inside The Neighborhood in downtown Ashland, the kitchen is part of a collaborative network of nonprofit organizations working to address poverty, food insecurity, and other challenges facing Northeast Kentucky residents. This shared location helps connect individuals with additional community services and resources.
As a funded partner of United Way of Northeast Kentucky, Ashland Community Kitchen plays an essential role in addressing one of our community's most fundamental needs: access to food. Through community partnerships, generous donors, and dedicated volunteers, the kitchen continues its longstanding mission of ensuring that no one in our community goes hungry.
