Ashland Senior Center
Supporting Independence, Encouraging Connection, and Enriching the Lives of Older Adults
The Ashland Senior Center, also known as the Boyd County Council on Aging, is dedicated to improving the quality of life for older adults throughout Ashland and Boyd County. By providing essential services, meaningful activities, and opportunities for social connection, the center helps seniors maintain their independence, stay active, and remain engaged in their community.
For many older adults, challenges such as limited mobility, transportation barriers, financial difficulties, and social isolation can make everyday life increasingly difficult. The Ashland Senior Center works to address these challenges by creating a welcoming environment where seniors can access resources, build friendships, and receive the support they need.
One of the center's most important services is its congregate meal program, which provides nutritious meals in a community setting. Beyond meeting nutritional needs, these shared meals offer an opportunity for conversation, companionship, and connection. For some participants, a visit to the center may be one of the most meaningful social interactions of their day.
The center also offers a variety of recreational, educational, and wellness activities designed to promote healthy aging. From exercise programs and group activities to opportunities for social engagement, these services encourage older adults to remain physically active, mentally engaged, and connected to the people around them.
Transportation assistance is another important part of the center's work. For seniors who no longer drive or have limited access to reliable transportation, getting to appointments, community activities, and essential services can become a significant challenge. By helping address transportation barriers, the center supports greater independence and continued participation in community life.
But perhaps one of the most valuable things the Ashland Senior Center provides is a sense of belonging. Aging should never mean facing life's challenges alone. Through compassionate staff, welcoming programs, and meaningful relationships, the center creates a supportive environment where older adults feel valued, respected, and connected.
As a funded partner of United Way of Northeast Kentucky, the Ashland Senior Center plays an important role in supporting the health, well-being, and independence of older adults in our community. Its services reflect United Way's commitment to meeting essential needs while empowering individuals to live healthier, more fulfilling lives.
Through community partnerships and continued support, the Ashland Senior Center helps ensure that older adults have more than access to necessary resources. They have a place to belong, friendships to enjoy, and opportunities to continue living life to the fullest.
